AFL Grand Final Day: Make Sure Your TV Is Ready for the Big Game

The AFL Grand Final is one of the biggest sporting days of the year, and if you're planning on settling in at home to watch the game, there are a few things worth checking before the first bounce.

Whether you're watching through your TV's built-in tuner or streaming through 7plus, a little preparation beforehand can save you from missing the action.

Watching the Grand Final Through Your TV Antenna

For many households, the simplest way to watch the Grand Final is through your TV's built-in tuner using your TV antenna and antenna wall point.

If your TV is connected to a working antenna point and your TV reception is good, you can simply tune into the free-to-air broadcast and watch the game directly through your television.

This is also a good reminder to check your TV reception before Grand Final day. If you've noticed missing channels, pixilation, picture dropouts or poor reception, it's much better to have the problem sorted before the game starts.

Watching Through the 7plus App

Another option is watching the Grand Final through the 7plus app using your internet connection.

However, if you're planning to use 7plus, make sure your device's location permissions are enabled.

7plus uses location information to determine whether you're in an eligible broadcast area, so having location services or permissions switched off can prevent you from accessing the live broadcast.

It's worth checking this before Grand Final day rather than discovering there's a problem when the game is about to start.

What About Kayo and Foxtel?

This is one that has caught some football fans out.

If you're planning on watching the Grand Final through Kayo or Foxtel, don't assume that having a sports subscription means you'll automatically be able to watch the live game.

The AFL Grand Final's live broadcast rights are separate from the regular AFL coverage available through these services.

So, if your plan is to watch the Grand Final live, make sure you've got your antenna/free-to-air TV or 7plus setup ready to go.

Don't Forget the Important Stuff!

Of course, getting the television sorted is only half the preparation!

Before the big day, check the BBQ gas bottle. There's nothing worse than getting the sausages on the BBQ and discovering you've run out of gas halfway through cooking.

And make sure the fridge is stocked with drinks and food before the game starts.

Once the first bounce happens, you don't want to be heading out to the shops because something wasn't organised!
